Water / Ways

Our Challenge:

The Museum on Main Street (MoMS) outreach program within the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) needed two interactive kiosk applications to showcase video stories about water in their traveling exhibition, Water/Ways.  They asked for an “artistically stunning” visual design to launch their exhibition with a base set of stories, but also needed a back-end CMS that would allow them to manage, enhance, and expand their “story base” as they continued to develop content.

Our Solution:

Using our ThinkTouch platform, we developed two visually engaging, mosaic-inspired design templates to house the Smithsonian’s initial collection of approximately 100 stories about “The Power of Water” and “Our Relationship with Water.”  Both kiosk applications include background video that incorporates moving water to contribute to the “flowing” nature of the overall design.  The exhibition, complete with stunning graphic display panels and two touch-screen podium systems running the ThinkTouch application, will travel across America over the next 5 years, visiting approximately 150 small-town museums, libraries, and community centers.  Smithsonian staff will use the cloud-based ThinkTouch editors to publish additional stories to both kiosks as the exhibition makes its way across rural America.
